My Secret to Staying Calm During a Storm

People ask me all the time how I stay so calm and peaceful all the time. Those close to me know the fires I have walked through and the challenges I have faced. The peace and calm I exude are by choice, developed and practiced.

“How?” you may ask. I have cultivated a time of stillness that begins every day without fail, where I connect to what I am comfortable calling God in prayer and meditation.  Here I foster a feeling of being connected to my Source; I set the intention to open myself to receive this light and energy and allow it flow through me by linking it to the physical flow of my breath. After I have sat with that sensation and visualization for a while, I imagine unconditional love flowing in and out of my heart center, the middle of my chest.

I want to bring to your awareness that this is not an intellectual exercise but a cellular exercise.  What do I mean by that? I am training every cell, every molecule that makes up my physical body to choose an emotion and thought that I create. I believe that each molecule in my body vibrates and thus I have a direct influence on the vibration it owns, it is my choice, and I am choosing to experience connection, trust, and surrender. I imagine this as a real exchange of energy flowing through me and emanating out from me. Why? I do this so that I can experience a deep sense of inner peace in the present moment, regardless of what the external world is offering me at that moment.
