Tune Into the Breath
Today’s mindful moment is a reminder to tune into our breath.
Today’s mindful moment is a reminder to tune into our breath. ![]() Research tells us the importance of practicing various breathing techniques for optimum health. But today, I want to focus on the power of our out-breath. I was reading an article in my mindful magazine that stated that only when we practice tuning in to the full exhale will we be able to inhale deeply, thus utilizing full lung capacity. One way to encourage a deep exhale and completely empty the lungs is sighing. My clients are very used to me encouraging sighing. Sighing is a forced outbreath that gives a moment to tune in that we are taxed. This extended exhale can help activate the parasympathetic nervous system and encourage a “rest” state instead of the activated fight-flight sympathetic nervous system. When we are aware of our breath, we can encourage ourselves to exhale what is no longer needed to make room for the new. So I encourage you to take a moment throughout your day to sigh and bring awareness to a full exhale to make room for a new inhale. Enjoy the flow! Nancy |
