Take It All In and Savor the Present

Mindful awareness

I recognize the challenges of living mindfully aware of each moment, and I have found it helpful to begin this awareness by noticing a few moments throughout the day.

For example, notice when you experience a strong positive or negative reaction or feeling to an experience. Such as the experience of deep peace first thing in the morning when all the world is quiet, and you are sipping your coffee or tea and savoring its smell and the delicious taste in your mouth. Or how about the impatient sensation that you feel as you sit in traffic on your way to work? Lastly, the feeling of irritation as your co-worker continues to have questions and comments during a meeting. You get the idea. Notice all the different emotions that you experience throughout your day. Do not judge them just observe and use that awareness as an opportunity to be present in that moment. Take in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes at that moment. Use that emotion as an opportunity to take it all in and choose to reset or enjoy and savor the present.
