Release Past Programming

Frequently, I talk about living fully aware of what you are doing in the present moment. Cultivating a skill of being in the now; not only in your awareness but also mentally and emotionally. What do I mean? As you live aware of the current moment and your interaction are you conscious of your thoughts and emotions at that moment?

Often we live doing one task while thinking about other things. Or we bring programming and beliefs from our past into the present moment. For example, while collaborating at work an idea is communicated, and you believe it will not be effective as you did something in the past and it didn’t work. Ask yourself, “Am I evaluating this idea in the here and now?” Another example is your girlfriend has a relationship dilemma, where you immediately relate it to something in your past and begin to speak emotionally and mentally from that space. Yes, we have life lessons that teach us, the question is, how aware are we of how past programming affects our now?

To the best of your ability allow each moment to stand on its own. Notice when you are bringing something forward from the past and use the T.H.I.N.K. analogy and ask yourself:  Is it True? Is it Helpful?  Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind? Thank you, Alan Redpath, for that analogy.
